Cardinals or red birds are special to me because they remind me of my grandmother. She loved and fed just about all animals. She would always point out when she would see a cardinal or blue jay outside. When I was a child, she had the little blue and yellow parakeets inside in a pretty little cage. She also had a red fox that would come and eat from the woods up from her house. But it is the cardinal that reminds me of her and her spirit. They always appear when I need it the most. Here is a poem I found online from another blogger, Victoria McGovern of Our Wander Life.

May you come to find comfort in and remember: Cardinals appear when angels are near. So go now, sit outside and drink your tea. Keep a look out for the little red bird — It is there, your loved one will be.

I am remembering Mama Ruth this week as it was the week she passed several years ago. I think of her everyday and miss her so. She never got angry that any of us saw, she welcomed everyone into her home, she didn't play favorites, and she loved with the love of Jesus, unconditionally. She was a very strong woman and never told her business or anyone else's for that matter. She was my hero and always will be. This picture was on Mother's Day 2011.
